RUSSIA'S SKOBREV BRINGS FIRST MEDAL FOR RUSSIAN TEAM

Russia's Ivan Skobrev won the bronze medal in men's 5,000 m Speed Skating, bringing the Russian team its first medal on the second day of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Skobrev said after the race he was glad with his performance and he hoped to compete for at least two more medals at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

"On the whole, I am satisfied with my performance. I have been striving to reach this all my life, since my parents helped me to put on my skates when I was three years old," he added.

Sven Kramer of the Netherlands won gold setting a new Olympic record of 6 minutes 14.60 seconds, which is some four seconds faster than Skobrev.

Seung-Hoon Lee, a young athlete from South Korea, showed a sensational performance, finishing the distance with the result of 6 minutes 16.95 seconds to win the silver for his country.

U.S. ATHLETES WIN FOUR MEDALS, TAKE LEAD IN TEAM MEDAL COUNT

U.S. athletes won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals on Saturday, taking a lead in medal count among national teams at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Hannah Kearney of the United States won on Saturday evening in Freestyle Skiing ladies' moguls bringing her country the first gold at the 2010 Olympics.

Kearney put on a flawless performance at the Cypress Mountain garnering 26.63 points to take the first place.

The silver medal went to reigning Olympic champion Jennifer Heil of Canada with 25.69 points and another athlete from the United States, Shannon Bahrke, received 25.43 points from judges and packed the bronze.

U.S. athletes also took two medals in the men's 1,500 meters Short Track competition, with the silver medal won by American Apolo Anton Ohno and the bronze picked up by his compatriot J.R. Celski while the gold medal went to South Korea's Lee Jung-Su.
