Polish skier Justyna Kowalczyk snatched the first gold medal for her country at the 2010 Olympics in Canada after finishing in just 0.3 seconds ahead of her closest contender in ladies' 30 km Mass Start.
The 27-year-old Polish skier raced to her victory at the Whistler Olympic Park to finish the distance in 1 hour 30 minutes 33.7 seconds and to leave the three-time 2010 Olympic Champion Marit Bjoergen of Norway with the silver medal.
Finland's Aino-Kaisa Saarinen finished with the result of 1 hour 31 minutes 38.7 seconds to bring the bronze for her country.
